How to get to Punxsutawney, PA

Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania sits at the intersection of US Route 119 and PA Route 36, about 60 mi northeast of Pittsburgh, PA. Driving to downtown Punxsutawney, PA is relatively easy from most directions.

Folks coming from areas west of Punxsy will find taking Interstate 80 to the Brookville exit to be the easiest approach. After exiting to Brookville, follow the posted signs for Punxsutawney to get onto PA Route 36. Follow 36 the whole way into downtown Punxsutawney. If you cross a bridge in Punxsy, you went to far (unless you’re going to Gobbler’s Knob).

If you approach from the northwest, you may find taking US Route 322 to Brookville to taking PA Route 36 into Brookville to be slightly more accessible.

If you approach from the southwest and/or Pittsburgh, take US Route 22 to Blairsville. Exit and take US Route 119 north to Punxsutawney. (NOTE: Routes 119 and 22 actually overlap from Greensburg exit to Blairsville.)

From the northeast, take Interstate 80 to the DuBois/Penfield exit (101). Follow Route 255 into DuBois, until you come to a left turn lane posted for US Route 219. Follow 219 out of DuBois. Just south of DuBois there is a Y. Follow the right in the Y to take US Route 119 south to Punxsutawney. When you come to the first traffic light in Punxsy, hang a right and you are downtown.

From the north, take US Route 219 to DuBois. Follow 219 out of DuBois. Just south of DuBois there is a Y. Follow the right in the Y to take US Route 119 south to Punxsutawney. When you come to the first traffic light in Punxsy, hang a right and you are downtown.

From the southeast, approach #1. Take US Route 22 to Interstate 99. Follow 99 to the PA Route 36 exit. Follow 36 North to Punxsutawney. This route is shortest, but also has the least freeway. Alternatively you can take 22 to US Route 219 and follow 219 north where it merges with PA 36.

From the southeast, approach #2. Take US Route 22 to Blairsville. Take US 119 North. This route has the most freeway miles, but is longest. Alternatively you can exit at 219 near Ebensburg and then take 422 west to Indiana and then catch 119 north.
